Not an anecdote of my life

I remember when I was in high school, we were the only school that had internet access. Back then, computers were really expensive you have to sell a kidney to buy a unit. The internet is accessible only through dial up and MS-DOS was the most popular application during that time.

I clearly recall a day when my computer teacher decided it was time to test our typing skills and or knowledge of computer software. I, who has always been impatient, offered to go first. The first exam was about sending a message. Confidently, I clicked on Netscape and entered the information needed. I type in the in information and the page dials… and dials.. and the homepage pops up after 30 minutes. Great! Now it’s time for my next class. Lesson of the day: never have an online exam especially when you’re using dial up.

Anyway, several years passed without my needing to use a computer, until finally on my third year, I just had to get one since the number of term papers I had to write was really piling up and going to an internet shop was really burdensome. Anyway, this was the height of Microsoft ME. So I started learning about Microsoft Office, and now I am a freelance writer, which needs full time use not only of MS Word but also of the internet.

My first job was as a call center agent so I needed a lot of customer service information, which I readily found from the web. I also read some MAC related articles and was then tasked to give Mac training to some of our agents despite the fact that I never used an Apple before.

This is not an anecdote of my life, but is the physical proof of how the internet has developed. At present, it is at a stage that no words can describe.

Backing Up Your Computer Verses Archiving

The concepts for the protection of a computer and document archiving often confused.

To clarify the difference is it going with that, which is a backup. In principle, a backup is a copy of short-term conservation of a file or a record, the origin of the event of loss or damage beyond repair. Make a backup of your files to create an image of something, so that you can get your data back, to a certain extent.

Therefore, you are really not that you will be able to backup data more and more and more. All that you are really impatient, if it is, I can retrieve the data?

An archive is comparable with the difference that its lifetime. An archive is, in general, as a way of a petition, a record for the future.

Many companies Archives information as a way to maintain and the company meet the regulatory requirements. The SEC had amended Regulation 17A, which is necessary for enterprises to maintain electronic records.

An archive is set up so that the information can be accessed quickly enough in the case of a review. In the old days, when all that was on paper meant, archiving and storage of files many boxes with an external provider, for a specified period of years. Electronic archiving is similar. At the end of the embargo, the files can be deleted.

Data Recovery - The Known And Unknown Facts

Data recovery, the process of retrieving data inaccessible or corrupt the storage media that the media reach a situation where it can be attained and the normal fashion. Data can be saved are often storage media such as diskettes, hard drives, tape drives, CD, DVD and RAIDs. The data is lost, either because of physical damage to the storage of logical drives or damage to systems files on the hard disk, which prevents access by the operating system.

Physical Damage

The physical damage, corruption is a part of the physical storage media. There are a number of possibilities, such as poor work of a hard disk by mechanical as headaches fails, and not one engine, or inadequate supplies of electricity. CD-ROM can be removed from its diapers, tape drives may be required to break easily if, in a travelling bag name only a few, and there may be even more reasons. Damage physical hard disk, more a kind of logic, as well as damage, there are some destroyed clusters, which are not accessible. The logic of damage must be restored before any files saved to the media.

The physical damage can not be repaired, the user itself, because it can lead to that the damage to other media and, in addition, users generally not learned how to ensure that such extreme processes such as the opening of a hard disk in a normal space may damage the hard drive more, as the dust on the surface of urbanization on the hard drive. To overcome these difficulties of data recovery business are consulted, if the rooms are clean 100 percent to keep it to protect the media, if repairs are made. This helps in the reconstruction of the logic of damage before the data are saved. But the success of data recovery is less than 100 per cent in the case of material damage, but most of the files are restored. This type of recovery can also be used for other media, such as tape drives, memory cards, etc.

Damage logical

The logic damage occurs, often compared to that of injury. It is, first and foremost, caused by poor maintenance, file system where structures were completely prevented in the storage medium. This leads to inconsistency in the state of the file system and can lead to various problems such as system fails, the operating system for controlling the boot files more than once, or it may be an actual loss of data. These differences until a limited period, can be repaired, and there are several programs with the operating system and the software can be used to solve the problem to be overcome. For example, there chkdsk with Microsoft Windows and Linux with fsck, and also some software available to overcome those mistakes, if the operating system is not able to correct these errors.

For most of the logic of damage can be retrieved using the operating system or software retrieval good. This is often the case when, in a recovery file two affirmed that the distribution and even in such a case, the loss of data for one of the files is essentially guaranteed. It can be reduced by using a file system journaled as NTFS 5.0. This file can be reset as for a coherent state, which means that data is lost is likely to be in the drive when caching system authentication. However, the work of regular maintenance of the system have yet to follow for all types of data loss. This does not protect only from lost data, but also by the file system is infected by the virus. However, an incompatibility remains, where controllers drives to note that the file system structures reports are stored on the hard drive, if it is not actually taken place. This can often reach a power outage, when the data is stored in the cache. This problem can be solved by using a system with a battery backup or an interruption of power supply relief (UPS), so that the waiting time data is written, if the device is switched on, or at least restored to allow sufficient time for the system True arrested.

The Latest Emerging Gadgets and Technology

There are numerous gadgets being created for the next coming years to help people, for fun and others for more practical purposes. Many have been created to change our household comfort, safety and weekend entertainment.

Australia, a continent known for it’s hot weather, over the last few years has been trying to develop new ways to save water. Caroma launched their water saving invention last year with the waterless urinal, called the H2Zero. It caused quite a splash at the Australian 2007 design awards. It is estimated that every flush wastes two litres of water. The H2Zero wastes none.

The design is different from other versions, which had problems with excessive urinal smells and noises that sounded like “a build up of waste matter.” The H2Zero flushes these problems away with an airtight separation unit as well as a deodorising block in the main cartridge just in case.

If companies start installing these water-saving urinals, Australia should save gallons of water. Hopefully with designs like this emerging in the country, water problems will dry up.

Unblock Myspace From School

Online social networking sites like Myspace, Hi5 and Facebook are quite popular amongst the younger generation. These sites offer features like file-sharing, instant messaging or leaving comments for the user’s profile. A lot of schools and universities have blocked these websites to be accessed from their locations to restrict the students from logging in to these websites. But these websites have also proved to be beneficial in some aspects of business networking and coordinating while working on projects and socializing as a measure to relieve you from stress.

The tech-wizards came up with different solutions to this restriction. Proxy servers were created which are safe and reliable ways to bypass network filters and firewalls and let you access desired websites from blocked or restricted locations. They facilitate browsing the internet, downloading games and news, accessing online social networking websites and shopping sites, chatting, sharing videos, music and a lot more.

A simple way to unblock access to websites like Myspace is to use alternate web browsers like Opera or Mozilla Firefox. If the network filtering has been done using group policy settings for internet explorer, this is the simplest way to access the online social networking site and use of alternative browsers would enable you to access the desired websites.

Proxy Sites Explained

You might have heard people talking about proxy sites but not really known what they were. I thought I would post what I know about them to help you out if you have questions.

What are proxy sites?

Proxies allow you to keep your personal information and IP safe from spyware and prying eyes. Every time you log on to the internet and go to a site you are exposing your IP and personal information to prying eyes on the web. If you are interested in your personal privacy you will enjoy the free service proxy sites can provide you. Proxies can give you protection anytime.

OK, so my personal information is safe, but why else would I need to use one?

Not only can proxies protect you, but they can allow you to surf the web anonymously and access sites that your school or work might block from you. Everyone’s probably experienced a time at work where you’re bored, on break, or need to check your personal sites for important reasons only to be blocked by your school’s firewall or security software. Why should we not be able to access these sites when we need them? Well, with php proxies you can bypass these firewalls and filters. It’s possible to go indirectly to your favorite sites. You can now browse your favorite sites without being blocked while you are at work or school. You can unblock websites like Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, Friendster. We can all take the internet back from these filters and experience the web as it was meant to be: freely.

Get a Free Laptop - Truth or Myth?

Recently CNN interviewed an owner of the free laptop website. They confirmed a website was not another scam but the real deal. Although only available to USA residents, the website does give away laptops for free, or almost.

So how does the whole “Get a Free Laptop” system work? It’s actually very simple. Once you’re at their website, you have to choose a laptop you want and fill out the e-mail address field. Next you will have an option of filling out a quick short 1 page survey. This step is optional.

Then, you will be offered many different memberships and trials, most of these are free for a week or so, with a possibility of cancellation without a fee, some offers require you to make a purchase costing a dollar or two. In order to get a free laptop you will have to complete 2 silver offers, 2 gold offers and either a) 6 platinum offers or b) Have 20 offers completed by people you refer. Please take note; you will have to do either “a” or “b”, not both.

When the required steps are completed, your laptop is on its way. Make sure you provided the correct address, PO boxes are not acceptable.

So where does the actual laptop come from? The owner of the website receives a decent amount of money from the advertiser for each offer you complete. Why does the advertiser pay so much money for it? Well, when you complete an offer, even free trials, you become a potential client for the advertiser. The whole “get a free laptop” system is a win-win-win deal for you, the website owner and the advertiser.
